Membership is open to any faculty, staff or students at the University of Missouri who have an interest in LGBTQ media and related topics.
The Missouri School of Journalism’s Queer Media Association, a chapter of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, hosts speakers, professional development events and social activities for aspiring LGBTQ journalists and allies. In the past, we’ve hosted a People magazine journalist to discuss trans coverage in the news media; have hosted a screening of an LGBTQ film during the annual True/False Film Festival; and have brought in a New York Times best-selling author to discuss writing tips.
The QMA is co-advised by Professor Rita Reed and Associate Professor Anna Romero.
We hope you’ll reach out to learn more about our chapter and ways you can be involved. Until then, feel free to check out the NLGJA’s stylebook supplement for tips and insight on covering folks in the LGBTQ community.
